Portable Vibration Data Loggers
TMP's data logger device is simple to use and records acceleration data for vibration sources in the 0-200 Hz frequency range and excitation levels upto 6 gpeak. The portable data logger measures and stores data from an accelerometer that is capable of sensing along all three axes. Such a device can be used to measure the vibration profile of any source. This data can be used to analyze the vibrations for transportation and shipping applications, machinery failure detection, endurance testing, vehicle vibration, and materials research.
This device is compact and can be easily handled and operated by a person who is minimally trained. User input is provided by series of push button switches while output is in the form of tri-color LEDs (TMP-DL-1). In version 2 (TMP-DL-2), infrared will be used to power the device in a remote controlled fashion. The device is intended to store data on an SD card that can be later downloaded onto a PC for spectral analysis using a graphical user interface (GUI). Figure below shows the TMP vibration data logger. TMP-DL-2 will be developed at a form factor equivalent to the size of a USB memory stick. The device is accompanied with necessary FFT spectral analysis software to convert and plot x, y, and z vibration data into m/s2 or g.
